‘You may glory in a team triumphant…but you fall in love with a team in defeat’
Roger Kahn, The Boys of Summer
Welcome to Wait until next year. The name isn’t a nod to when the next post might appear (despite evidence to the contrary some weeks!) but is a nod to the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team, perennial losers to the Yankees in the World Series’ of the forties and fifties, who eventually shook off that tag, winning in 1955 – only to be uprooted to Los Angeles in 1957.
However, this isn’t a baseball blog, although I certainly cover it. It has a focus on sport, how I enjoy it, how it is experienced and what we all get from the ups-and-downs of following our favourite team (whoever that may be).
I also intend to cover other subjects, from writing to drinking, music to travel. You know, all the fun and important stuff.
This blog is essentially where I can leave my thoughts from time to time, and stretch out and play around with my writing.
I guess I like the title as it kind of references how disappointment in the present and optimism for the future go hand-in-hand, in sport and in life.
So, who am I? Well, I’m a male hurtling towards thirty who lives in London, England. I’m one of those people who’d love to write more, but then fails miserably. This blog is an attempt to rectify that. My job is web-related, but don’t expect any fancy features here – to coin a cliché, I’m a great believer in content being king. Although saying that, short nonsense posts will certainly have their place here…
I’d love to hear any feedback you have and will be sure to reply. I look forward to hearing from you.
Steve

Things can only proceed downward so long before statistical trends compel them to shift upward again.

That’s an interesting perspective – I like it!
